The Lost Ways – Review

According to the story, a lost book, believed to have been long consigned to the dustbin of history was found in a dusty drawer in an old house in Austin, Texas which belonged to a guy Claude Davis.

The Lost Ways review

Neighbours stated that for the last couple of years Claude has tried to unearth and learn the forgotten ways of our great-grandparents and claimed to have found a secret of gargantuan proportions. A secret that he is about to reveal together with 3 old teachings that will change everything you think you know about preparedness.

Whether the legend is true or has been embellished doesn’t really matter.  The contents are certainly eye-opening, and at the very least, fun.

Home Security

The Lost Ways review - old home security

A section of the book, for example, deals with home security measures that were used by our great-grandfathers 150 years ago.

What’s astonishing about these measures is that, without the benefit of cameras or all our intricate modern technology, they are very sound and workable measures that would still work today!

Survival Food

The Lost Ways review - pemmican

Another section of the book covers a recipe for a high energy survival food known as Pemmican.  I have to confess it doesn’t look super-appetising, but if you’re out trekking through the jungle – or maybe the desert – it’s definitely a recipe you’d want to know.

It’s easy to carry and, allegedly, a little of it can give a grown man enough energy to last a whole day.  (I do imagine that depends what he’s doing, but it IS survival food and looking at the ingredients and the density of the food, I’m willing to believe it.)

Wild Lettuce Natural Painkiller Recipe

You can watch every step of wild lettuce painkiller – apparently as good as an opiate but entirely legal – is made in this guy’s kitchen.

Overall

The Lost Ways probably isn’t your average bedtime read, I’ll be honest.

But, if you’re interested in old remedies, survival tactics that have stood the test of time or just the ingenuity of our forefathers, then this is a mine of information as well as entertainment.

The publishers have realised that some people will want to own The Lost Ways as a physical book and so it’s offered that way too for the same price as the digital version with just the addition of postage.
