Why Positive Thinking Doesnât Work

Positive thinking doesnât work. Look at the evidence. How many times have you tried optimism only to be disappointed? If positive thinking worked, the horse you back will always be the one to win.
I believe in positive thinking, however. Just not in that way. Consider the alternative, which would be negative thinking.
Youâll discover that you know a lot of people who indulge in negative thinking. The majority of people seem to have negativity as a default setting. âWhat if it doesnât work out or it all goes wrong?â are phrases many of us had instilled in us from childhood.
Negative thinking makes you feel bad. It also stops you from trying. You donât build your dreams and you wonât grow. Youâll stagnate and youâll blame the world at large for life being dull, frustrating and difficult.
So negative thinking doesnât work either.
Hereâs what works.
Positive beliefs. You only need a couple. Try, âNo matter what happens, Iâll handle it.â That covers a lot of ground. Add in: âThereâs always a way if Iâm committed.â And for good measure you could chuck into the recipe: âIâm guided and I trust my instincts.â
(Actually your instincts are a great thing to trust – your forebrain, which is the seat of most conscious thought, is not good at making decisions because it does not have any creative faculty).
Three beliefs, thatâs it.
Try those out. Just keep telling yourself those as affirmations consistently and what youâll discover is that positive thoughts arise out of your state of being naturally.
(âThe Book Of Beingâ goes much deeper into how to live from being instead of struggling by doing – check out the link on the right of this post).
