Is anyone ever truly true to themselves?  Besides, what does that actually mean?  (Shakespeare also said it:  “To thine own self be true.”)

The point of being true to yourself, in my opinion, is because the more you follow your heart – which means doing what feels good and right to you – the happier you are and the freer you are.

So why would anybody not be true to themselves?  It seems the most obvious thing in the world … and yet …

The reason is that we all want to be liked, loved and accepted.  And we learn from just a few months old that some of our behaviour isn’t acceptable.  The problem is that at that age we aren’t able to distinguish between our behaviour and our very existence, so we end up believing that parts of ourselves are somehow unacceptable.

The trick is to get – really get – that YOU are not your behaviour any more than you are your job or your things.

Then you can start letting yourself know, feel and believe that being all of who you are is perfectly fine.

In fact it’s more than fine.  It’s essential.  There’s only ever going to be one you in all of time, so don’t you dare not shine!
