As you go through life things will happen that you will want to label as “problems.”
So what?
Are you really going to let them kill your dreams?
The following ten questions may help your revival – and may even be instrumental in your survival too!
There are no prizes for answering these – except for the perhaps priceless one of a new lease of life – so be honest with yourself. (There’s no one else listening!)
1. What do I really want?
The question of the ages. So many things you want to do with your life and so little time to even go about during the day.
Choose something that you are good at and ask yourself what is one small step you could take to improve on what you’ve been doing. It’s an exercise in diligence – and stops you resting on your laurels.
2. Should I really change?
Every generation finds another level of redefining ‘self’, or at least that’s what the kids of today tell me. That isn’t a reason to throw out your ways or condemn yourself as old fashioned just because you’ve passed the age of twenty three.
3. What’s the bright side in all of this?
Change happens – and it’s happening faster than at any time in history. It’s all too easy to take the gloomy approach but that’s only a matter of shifting focus. Stop listening to the doom-mongers for a while and deliberately look for positives in all the changes.
If you don’t, there’s a real danger you won’t only stop seeing light at the end of the tunnel but you’ll forget there ever was a tunnel at all!
And if it’s a train at the end of the tunnel, take it for a ride and see what makes the world go round!
4. Am I comfortable with what I’m doing?
There’s always the easy way and the right way when it comes to deciding what goes with which shoes, or purse, shirt and whatnot. It doesn’t take a genius to see yourself as someone unique, or else we’ll all be equally the same in everything we do. Variety brings in very interesting and exciting questions to be experimented.
5. Have I done enough for myself?
Have you, or is there something more you want to do? Discontentment in every aspect can be dangerous in large doses, but in small amounts you’ll be able to see and do stuff you could never imagine doing.
6. Am I happy at where I am today?
It’s an unfair question I know. And it’s double edged. If you say yes, you risk complacency. If you say no, you’re staring into the abyss of discontentment again. If you’re in balance, the answer will be in the region of, “Yes. And there’s still so many exciting things to do.”
7. Am I appealing to the opposite sex?
So maybe you don’t have an answer to that, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try, though. Whether you shape-up, change the way you wear your clothes or hair, or even your attitude towards people, you should always remember it will always be for your own benefit.
If you feel good about the way you look, move, dress and even smell, the chances are you are appealing to the opposite sex. Not all of them, maybe, but enough to keep a bit of personal pride afloat!
8. How much could I let go of?
Material possessions don’t bring happiness although they can be fun. Re-evaluate what’s fun to keep and what you really don’t need any more. Even if you don’t end up having a massive spring clean, (or garage sale), the mental exercise is very freeing.
9. What motivates me?
Answering this one is an opportunity to assert your individual tastes, however odd they may be. If not now, when?
10. What Really Makes Me Tick?
This is about who you are, how you show up in the world, and not about what you have. Setting a big goal is a great thing but it’s nothing to do with whether you achieve it or not. It’s the reaching, the striving and the growing that you undergo along the way that makes them so important. Growing never stops, so keep ticking!
