New Year is just around the corner - a time when many of us think about making changes to our lives to make them better - the so-called Resolutions!

I have one or two revolutionary ones, the first of which is this: From now on, be selfish!!

I’d better explain.

When I run my Quit Smoking Sessions, before we even get near the quitting, I tell the smokers to be selfish about the day because by the end they’ll be happier, healthier, wealthier people won’t they? And who doesn’t enjoy being around a happy, healthy person? ‘Specially when they’ve got a few jingly coins in their pockets too!

See what I mean?

This New Year, why not decide on a few things that YOU really want? How about enrolling for that course you’ve always wanted to do? Or treating yourself to that beautiful book - even if it’s four or five times what you’d normally spend on a book?

It doesn’t have to be expensive either. I love nice pens. Some people like gorgeous soap. It can even be free. How about listening to more Mozart on the hi-fi? Or the Spice Girls new album if that’s your thing!

The point is to find a few “indulgences” that make you feel good - not mean, and not things that will make someone else suffer, of course. (If your partner hates Mozart, you’ll have to compromise. Or maybe treat yourself to excellent headphones!)

Because when you feel good, others want to be with you more. And that’s as unselfish as it gets. In other words, this year, you’ll be even more attractive.

Now how’s that for a resolution?

Happy (nearly) New Year!

Trevor.
